A Guide for New Clients

💬 Starting therapy can feel overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be.

Here’s what you can expect when beginning the journey toward healing, growth, and emotional well-being.

🛋️ 1. A Safe, Confidential Space

Therapy is a judgment-free zone where you can talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. What you share stays between you and your therapist (with a few safety-related exceptions).

🗓️ 2. The First Session: Getting to Know You

Your first session will focus on:

  • Why you’re seeking therapy

  • Your history and current challenges

  • What you hope to get out of therapy.

  • It's okay if you’re not sure where to start—your therapist will guide the conversation.

🎯 3. Goal Setting

Together, you’ll set goals based on your needs. These might include things like managing anxiety, healing from past trauma, improving relationships, or building coping skills.

🔁 4. Ongoing Sessions: Talking + Tools

Each session may include:

  • Talking through experiences, thoughts, or emotions

  • Learning new coping strategies

  • Building insight and self-awareness

  • Sometimes activities, journaling, or mindfulness practices

  • For children, this may also include play, arts and crafts, or sand tray

Therapy can be emotional—but it can also include laughter, growth, and relief.

🧠 5. It’s a Process, Not a Quick Fix

Healing takes time. Some days may feel easier than others. The important part is showing up and being open to the journey.

✅ 6. You’re in Control

You don’t have to share anything before you’re ready. You can always ask questions or express concerns. Therapy works best when it feels like a partnership.

🌱 Therapy is for Everyone

You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Whether you’re processing big life events or just want to understand yourself better—therapy is a healthy step.
