A Guide for New Clients
💬 Starting therapy can feel overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be.
Here’s what you can expect when beginning the journey toward healing, growth, and emotional well-being.
🛋️ 1. A Safe, Confidential Space
Therapy is a judgment-free zone where you can talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. What you share stays between you and your therapist (with a few safety-related exceptions).
🗓️ 2. The First Session: Getting to Know You
Your first session will focus on:
Why you’re seeking therapy
Your history and current challenges
What you hope to get out of therapy.
It's okay if you’re not sure where to start—your therapist will guide the conversation.
🎯 3. Goal Setting
Together, you’ll set goals based on your needs. These might include things like managing anxiety, healing from past trauma, improving relationships, or building coping skills.
🔁 4. Ongoing Sessions: Talking + Tools
Each session may include:
Talking through experiences, thoughts, or emotions
Learning new coping strategies
Building insight and self-awareness
Sometimes activities, journaling, or mindfulness practices
For children, this may also include play, arts and crafts, or sand tray
Therapy can be emotional—but it can also include laughter, growth, and relief.
🧠 5. It’s a Process, Not a Quick Fix
Healing takes time. Some days may feel easier than others. The important part is showing up and being open to the journey.
✅ 6. You’re in Control
You don’t have to share anything before you’re ready. You can always ask questions or express concerns. Therapy works best when it feels like a partnership.
🌱 Therapy is for Everyone
You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Whether you’re processing big life events or just want to understand yourself better—therapy is a healthy step.
